Officer unhurt after exchanging gunfire with suspect on OBT
A bicycle officer stopped a person they said was acting suspiciously near North Orange Blossom Trail
Officer not hurt; suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries
The police officer involved was not injured.
According to authorities, a bicycle officer stopped a person they said was acting suspiciously near North Orange Blossom Trail and Clarcona Ocoee Road at 2:30 a.m.
During their interaction, witnesses tell police the suspect began firing on the officer. There was an exchange of gun fire. The suspect was shot, but managed to run off.
A foot pursuit began as more officers arrived.
The suspect was located in a field just north of the shopping plaza at OBT and Clarcona.
“At some point there was an exchange of gunfire,” said Police Chief John Mina, describing the police stop. “We were told by witnesses that the suspect was shooting at our officer and he returned fire.”
There was no information on what caused the OPD bike cop to stop the suspect or why gun shots were exchanged.
The suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries. No information has been released on the suspect.
The investigation is being handled by FDLE.
