ORANGE COUNTY, Fl. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved crash.
- Deputy crashed into back of SUV, FHP said
- SUV had mechanical issue, slowed down
- Crash remains under investigation
Officials said a deputy patrol vehicle and another vehicle crashed into a toll booth on SR-408 around 8:30 a.m.
According to FHP, a Mitsubishi SUV was traveling westbound on SR-408 when, according to the 54-year-old driver, the vehicle had a mechanical issue and the driver activated his flashers as he tried to get off of the roadway.
Troopers said a deputy traveling behind the SUV failed to slow down and struck the left, rear of the SUV. The patrol vehicle then caught fire.
Troopers said bystanders pulled the deputy from the burning vehicle. He only received minor injuries.
FHP said the crash remains under investigation.
